This study is on the present status and relevance of the traditional governance system of Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh, with a focus on the gatpo (or lambardar/nambardar).

The labeling of people criticising governments for their policy actions/inactions, and of those building movements against problematic policies as anti-national has no place in a democracy like India.

Local courts in Bihar, known as gram kachcheris, have become part of the state’s sociocultural fabric. They deliver justice in a timely and inexpensive manner, in matters ranging from theft and small land disputes to family feuds.

In Gadchiroli, local communities have invested in building institutions that view them as "rights-holders" rather than "beneficiaries," helping generate local employment, enhance incomes, and conserve forests.
