“Millet Shakti Cafés – Quick Service Restaurant by WSHGs” to be launched by Mission Shakti and Odisha Millets Mission

“Rs 32.72 Cr is provisioned for supporting millet entrepreneurship and awareness campaigns through Women SHGs for 3 yrs in 14 districts. More than 100 WSHG entrepreneurs will be trained and supported in 14 districts as part of the project. In addition, they will also be sent to CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore for advance training and certification process. 

Mission Shakti (Directorate of WSHGs, WCD Department,  Odisha) and Odisha Millets Mission signed a memorandum of agreement for promotion of millet entrepreneurship and millet awareness campaigns through WSHGs in 14 districts of Odisha. Mission Shakti has WSHG membership of 70 Lakh women members in Odisha. Odisha Millets Mission is flagship initiative of Agriculture & FE Dept, Odisha in 14 districts. Rs 32.72 Cr is provisioned for supporting millet entrepreneurship and awareness campaigns through Women SHGs for 3 yrs in 14 districts.

Key features of the MoA are as follows:-

(1) 15 Millet Shakti Café (Quick Service Restaurant) proposed to be run by SHGs supported by Mission Shakti will be established within the next year in urban areas of Odisha. Millets based hot cooked items, bakery products, packaged millet grains and ready to cook products will be sold in these urban outlets.

(2) Women SHGs of Mission Shakti in 14 districts shall take up massive awareness campaigns targeting HH level consumption of millets.

(3) Capacity building of Women SHGs in 14 districts on Nutritional aspects of millets, Preparation of millet recipes and Inclusion of ragi ladoos in ICDS.

(4) Millet Entrepreneurship through WSHGs

[a] 2 Millet processing and value addition units per block in 76 blocks.
[b] 5 Millet Kiosk per block in 76 blocks.
[c] 1 Mobile millet outlets per district in 14 districts.

More than 100 WSHG entrepreneurs will be trained and supported in 14 districts as part of the project. In addition, they will also be sent to CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore for advance training and certification process.
