| What if the greatest loss of our times isn’t forests & biodiversity?Or communities.Or even democracy.What if it is our imagination?Our ability to dream of a better world? We’ve become remarkably good at imagining more technology, more AI, greater extraction, endless consumption, and an inevitable doomsday. But do we dare to imagine economies rooted in care? Communities built on trust? Leadership that serves? Politics that doesn’t polarize? Or a reciprocal relationship with nature rather than extraction? It’s time we reclaim what we’ve systematically been separated from – our voices, our communities, our jal, jungle, zameen, our imagination, and even our own sense of being. But how? By asking the right questions. By refusing easy answers.By standing before tangled roots instead of looking only at the fallen tree.By gathering scattered pieces of a puzzle to understand how the ecological, social, economic and political crises of our times are deeply intertwined. And it doesn’t have to be in isolation. The process of enquiry is collective. It happens in the company of people who choose to care. It happens in dialogue. In community. In nature, our deepest history being one of belonging – to each other and to the living world. For close to a decade, Earth Shastra has been holding this space of collective enquiry. |
| For nine days, we gather in the mountains, deconstruct the dominant narratives, learn from forests, local communities and mentors, build relationships, reconnect with the more-than-human world, work on inner transformation as the foundation for outer change and cultivate a kind of leadership rooted in harmony – with self, others and the rest of nature. If you imagine limitlessly, care deeply, are mad courageous and believe another world is possible, you’re invited to be a part of the 12th edition of Earth Shastra, from 26th September – 4th October, in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. “Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. क्या हमारे समय का सबसे बड़ा नुकसान जंगलों और जैव-विविधता का है?या समुदायों का ?या फिर लोकतंत्र का ?सबसे बड़ा नुकसान हमारी कल्पना का है!एक बेहतर दुनिया का सपना देखने की हमारी क्षमता का हमने और अधिक तकनीक, अधिक AI, अधिक दोहन, अंतहीन उपभोग और एक तयशुदा विनाश की कल्पना करना तो सीख लिया है। लेकिन क्या हम ऐसी अर्थव्यवस्था की कल्पना कर सकते हैं जो देखभाल और संवेदना पर टिकी हो? ऐसे समुदायों की जो विश्वास पर बने हों? ऐसे नेतृत्व की जो सेवा करे? ऐसी राजनीति की जो लोगों को बाँटे नहीं? या प्रकृति के साथ दोहन नहीं, बल्कि पारस्परिकता के रिश्ते की? अब समय आ गया है कि हम उसे वापस हासिल करें, जिससे हमें व्यवस्थित रूप से अलग कर दिया गया है – हमारी आवाज़, हमारे समुदाय, हमारा जल, जंगल, ज़मीन, हमारी कल्पना, और यहाँ तक कि हमारे होने का एहसास भी। लेकिन कैसे? सही सवाल पूछकर।आसान जवाबों को ठुकराकर।गिरे हुए पेड़ को देखने के बजाय उसकी उलझी हुई जड़ों के सामने ठहरकर।बिखरे हुए टुकड़ों को जोड़कर यह समझने की कोशिश करके कि हमारे समय के पारिस्थितिक, सामाजिक, आर्थिक और राजनीतिक संकट किस तरह एक-दूसरे से गहराई से जुड़े हुए हैं। और यह सफ़र अकेले तय करने की ज़रूरत नहीं है।यह खोज सामूहिक है। यह उन लोगों के साथ है जो परवाह करना चुनते हैं। संवाद में। समुदाय में। प्रकृति के बीच – जहाँ हमारी सबसे पुरानी पहचान एक-दूसरे से और इस जीवित संसार से जुड़े होने की रही है। लगभग एक दशक से Earth Shastra इसी सामूहिक खोज और संवाद के लिए एक ऐसा ही स्थान बना रहा है। |
| नौ दिनों के लिए, हम आपको पहाड़ों के बीच एक ऐसी सामूहिक यात्रा का निमंत्रण देते हैं – जहाँ हम मिलकर प्रभुत्वशाली आख्यानों (Dominant Narratives) को प्रश्न करते हैं, जंगलों, स्थानीय समुदायों और मार्गदर्शकों से सीखते हैं; रिश्ते बनाते हैं; मानव से परे इस जीवित संसार से अपना संबंध फिर से जोड़ते हैं; भीतर के परिवर्तन को बाहरी बदलाव की नींव मानकर उस पर काम करते हैं; और ऐसे नेतृत्व का अभ्यास करते हैं जो स्वयं, दूसरों और शेष प्रकृति के साथ सामंजस्य में निहित हो। यदि आप असीम कल्पना करने का साहस रखते हैं, गहराई से परवाह करते हैं, बेखौफ़ होकर सवाल पूछते हैं, और विश्वास करते हैं कि एक बेहतर दुनिया संभव है – तो 26 सितम्बर से 4 अक्टूबर तक उत्तराखंड के कुमाऊँ क्षेत्र में आयोजित Earth Shastra के 12वें संस्करण का हिस्सा बनिए। |
