Field Report- Machimar Nagar

The following research essay details findings from fieldwork carried out at Machimar Nagar among the members of the Koli community. It explores community beyond the lens of both traditionalism and modernity, trying to propose it as a central unit when planning development and policies. The essay relies on the pioneering work of Prof Ostrom on community management of resources and additionally places the findings within the context of the latest research on climate change among anthropologists. The brief research essay is a small look into the world of the community and how it differs from the modern outlook towards development and natural resources. The paper importantly raises questions of community and property rights. Additionally, the research also explores how climate change as a phenomenon has affected the daily lives of the fishing community over the years. The research methodology is entirely qualitative and focuses on the lived experiences of people.
