Women in Pastoral Societies: Fellowship Annoucement 2022

15 July @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm IST

Anthra is pleased to announce the next fellowship for research on “Women in Pastoral Societies”

The body of research and scholarship on pastoral systems is increasing but there is still very little
academic scholarship on pastoral women, their knowledge related to livestock , land, natural
resources, health and nutrition. There is even less documented on their status , their access to
resources , assets & services.

We invite applications from researchers interested in the subject to apply for an 18 month of fulltime
fellowship starting 2022.The research will be based in Maharashtra as part of a larger project entitled “ Bringing Visibility and Recognition to Women Livestock Farmers and Pastoralists and their Knowledge”. The researcher will work with pastoral groups in the state of Maharashtra and report to the office in
Pune. Knowledge of Marathi is therefore essential. The selected candidate will work closely with
experts in the field of pastoralism and gender.

The fellowship carries a monthly stipend of Rs.30,000/- per month for a period of 18 months. There is a separate budget for field-related expenses.

Applicants are expected to have a Masters degree.

contribute to the project with skills , knowledge , approaches .

write to the Director of Anthra at the address below.

Last date for receiving applications 15th July 22.

About Anthra
Anthra is an organization based in Pune , Maharashtra that works on issues primarily related to
livestock and livelihoods . We seek to work towards sustainable and enduring livestock production
systems which are based in and supportive of diverse livelihoods and landscapes. We try and
understand and address the complex relationship of livestock production systems to the emerging
challenges of climate change. We also try and sensitize research in the livestock sector towards
more sustainable, environmentally appropriate and socially just approaches.
The focus of our work is on small rearers. We are one of the very few organizations working closely
with pastoral groups in Maharashtra in the domains of health , veterinary health ,education and
equality . Through our research we build evidence which helps in advocacy initiatives for
marginalised livestock rearing communities .
