Questioning the consumption based developmental paradigm

Specially put together for the Vikalp Sangam Website

by young minds of The Valley School, Bangalore

These posters were created by the Class 11 Environmental Science Students at the Valley School, Bengaluru (Krishnamurti Foundation). The students have taken up a yearlong project to understand the issues related with ‘Waste’, Carbon Footprint and Global Warming.  They have been fundamentally questioning the consumption based developmental paradigm through field visits, readings, reflections, dialogues, vegetable gardening as well as taking up personal and social initiatives in order to create awareness and reduce environmental impact.

The posters were put up across the Valley campus during School Birthday celebrations and the Sports Day–both of which bring together over a thousand visitors.  It is worth noting that the Valley School requests students, parents and visitor community to bring their own cups/glasses on such events so as to avoid generation of plastic waste.  Snacks are served in leaf bowls which are bio-degradable.

Editorial Comment: The need to save the polar bear in this age of rising sea levels (due to global warming) that is depicted in the following poster may not be a real need, for there is also a contradictory view that polar bears are safe despite the rise.
